Significance of the Study The findings of this study can be valuable in three ways. First, they may guide admissions personnel and decision makers at the ministry of higher education and scientific research in identifying whether high school GPA and admission test scores help in predicting academic performance of students attending higher education institutions. This study might also help them in the development of future admission plans and student retention programs at Yemeni universities and colleges, resulting in changing the admissions policies all together. Summary The purpose of this study was to examine the validity and predictive power of the high school GPA and the Admission Test scores on college academic performance. This investigation was limited to undergraduate students attending the University of Umm Alqurââ¬â¢a in Saudi Arabia. Specifically, the aim of this study was to identify which one of the two previous predictor variables that contributes more in the prediction of academic performance of college students. This study addressed five questions that asked if the predictor variables, high school GPA and the Admission Test scores, were related to the academic performance in first year grade point average in the university. How well these two variables predict academic performance of students attending the University of Umm Alqurââ¬â¢a during fall 2004 and spring 2005.
